But in fact it all started much, much earlier.
Before the recipes, SILMACHY products and markets, there was… the path of a pharmacist.
I started studying at the Faculty of Pharmacy at Rīga Stradiņš University, because I was drawn to medicine, but I couldn’t stand blood, so I figured pharmacy would be close enough to medicine, but without the stressful situations. The studies were intense – at least 7 kinds of chemistry, daily lab work, formulas… And even though it was all interesting, I felt I was somehow short of breath.
I’m a dreamer, and I feel good when I can express myself creatively. So before my 3rd year I took an academic year off and went to New Zealand – “to figure out my life’s purpose” 😃 When I came home, I went straight back – to pharmacy. I suppose it was the feeling that the profession is stable, prestigious and “has to be finished”. I started working at a pharmacy – advising customers, preparing medicines…
And it was making medicines that sparked something in me.
That moment when little piles of white powder turn into something that helps someone else – the awareness that you are helping them get well.
Perhaps, in that moment, without knowing it yet, the idea was born – of my own path and my own cosmetics.
Today, celebrating 10 years since the start of that path, I look back with gratitude and a smile – because it all started in the chemistry lectures I thought I hated. But it turned out that’s where the spark was hiding.
