It is often that we hear a question which one is better – beard oil or beard balm? This is not a certain question, because the choice will depend on several factors:
- What length are you planning to grow to (or currently have)?
- What style of beard do you keep?
- Do you prefer it to shine or look natural?
- Do you have dry, average or oily skin?
Beard oil is the most common facial hair product and for many good reasons. It is used as a light beard and skin softening and moisturizing agent. Beard oil is suitable for dry – normal skin and will be the most comfortable for short – medium long beard. If you’re looking for a flat finish rather than a shiny finish, then beard oil is the way to go, as it is absorbed much faster into your facial hair and skin.
Depending on the added base oils, active substances and essential oils, it may also have additional functions such as dealing with ingrowing hair and itching, promoting beard growth, eliminating unpleasant odors (smoking), etc. We recommend using beard oil 1-2 times a day on clean skin and beard for best results.
How
to apply beard oil
Usually
you have to use just a few drops of beard oil, but mostly this
depends on the length of your beard and how thick it is. You can find
your right amount through simple trial and error while you grow. Just
massage those few drops of oil into your face with your palms and
brush through with a beard brush to distribute it evenly..
Beard balm is basically a pomade made of moisturizers and softeners. It’s most often recommended for men with medium-to-long beards, for several reasons. The main one is that it solves the beard problem – flyaways and messy look. With beard balm you can shape and style your beard with ease. Beard balm is also less absorbent than beard oil, so it stays on your beard and skin for longer, and has a lasting shine. We recommend using natural beard balms, that do not contain mineral oils and silicones. Natural beard balms are made from beeswax, shea or cocoa butter and nourishing plant-based oils.
How
to apply beard balm?
Start
with a fingertip-sized amount of balm and work it into your beard
from the neck upwards, making sure to also rub it into the skin
beneath. Then brush your beard with a beard brush to evenly
distribute the balm and to shape the beard.
